The 2nd major setback of the day has hit Indian Badminton. After 2016 Rio Olympics Medalist PV Sindhu failed to clear the quarter finals in the Australian Open Super Series earlier in the day, Saina Nehwal has followed suit.
Saina lost 17-21, 21-10, 17-21 in the quarters against World No. 6 China's Sun Yu. The match lasted 78 minutes.
Nehwal’s defeat meant that K Srikanth is the only Indian shuttler still alive in the tournament. Srikanth will fight fourth seed Shi Yuqi of China on Saturday in the semi-finals.
